You have been invited to the following event.
Title: FIRST Chesapeake District 2020 Southwest Virginia Robotics
Competition
FIRST Chesapeake District presents the FIRST Robotics Competition on
Saturday, March 21, 2020 and Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Blacksburg High
School.
Tentative Saturday Schedule:
• 10:30-11:00 AM: Opening Ceremony
• 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Qualification Matches
• 1:00-2:00 PM: Lunch for Teams and Volunteers
• 2:00-7:00 PM: Elimination Tournament
Forty of the best and brightest high school robotics teams will be
competing in this two-day event. Come out and cheer on your favorite team
and/or learn more about bringing FIRST Robotics programs to your community.
FIRST Robotics Competition combines the excitement of sports with the
rigors of science. Under strict rules, limited resources, and the guidance
of volunteer mentors including engineers, teachers, business professionals,
parents, alumni and more, teams of 25+ students build and program robots to
perform challenging tasks against a field of competitors. Teams must also
raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and perform
community outreach. In addition to learning valuable STEM and life skills,
participants are eligible to apply for $80 million in college scholarships.
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is the the ultimate sport for the mind
amoung high-school student participants and call it “the hardest fun you’ll
ever have.”
Visitors can see how teams used limited time and resources to design a
team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size
robots to play a difficult basketball-sized field game against like-minded
competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering sport as you can get.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
