Our annual Defense Against the Dark Arts (pentesting) panel talk is
different this year. Instead of a panel of various demos and talks,
we're honored to give the floor to the SANS/DefCon SCADA/CI pentest
expert Monta Elkins <https://www.sans.org/profiles/monta-elkins/> who's
presenting on tools and methods for hardware side channel attacks for
keypad security systems. Monta will be giving us an overview of this
hidden gem of a hardware having tool, the Open Source SigRok Pulseview
logic analyzer <https://sigrok.org/wiki/PulseView> package, combined
with a <$20 USB logic analyzer
<https://www.amazon.com/HiLetgo-Analyzer-Ferrite-Channel-Arduino/dp/B077LSG5P2>
to crack keypad based security systems:
pulseview
After hooking up +5, GND, and the data pins, sniffing data with this
device and the free Pulseview software is easier than might think!
(Pulseview video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx0Qo5n-x_4
